Read to Pet Pals

The Read to Pet Pal program helps children improve their literacy skills, confidence and self-esteem. Reading to our attentive pets provides a non-judgmental audience for the children. This special program creates a friendly, positive learning environment.

Our program is unique in that it fosters multiple skill sets. The first is educational, where children will learn more about the PFL pets they will be reading to and how to appropriately interact with them. The second is literacy where they will improve their reading skills and boost confidence. The readers will rotate to several furry friends and will take turns reading to each of them. Additionally, the children learn social skills; patience as they wait their turn, refraining from interrupting, and listening to each other with respect. The animals provide a non-critical audience for the readers, and the program fosters a fun and affirming experience that builds confidence and makes reading fun.
